Why Should I Have Microneedling?
Why would anyone recommend repeatedly poking needles into the skin for the sake of beauty? I have been asked this question more than you can imagine! I’ve also been told it is a dangerous procedure by those who do not have a full understanding of what microneedling is or what it entails. (Or just afraid of needles and don’t want to admit it!) If that is the case I completely understand and offer numerous alternative treatments that do not involve needles. I will do my best to clearly explain microneedling and why you should consider investing in this cutting edge anti-aging procedure.
As we age the body’s ability to regenerate new skin cells and produce collagen significantly decreases. Collagen production is strongest around the age of 20. At 40 we produce approximately 20% less, 30% less at 50.
Microneedling tricks the skin into thinking it has been wounded, thus stimulating our natural wound response. The body produces new collagen and elastin and sends it to the perceived wound (your face). Plumping, firming and filling the area. Are you intrigued yet?
Lisa G’s machine is a motorized pen, not a roller. The sterile cartridges are pre-packaged and have nine surgical steel needles which create tiny precise channels in the skin at a very high speed. A circular motion is used when passing over the area of skin being treated. Dermal needling rollers can cause damage such as tearing of the skin. Motorized pens produce better results with quicker healing.
Your skin will be numbed, cleansed, and sterilized. A solution of PCA Skin hyaluronic acid will be needled into the skin throughout your treatment. I recommend using only hyaluronic for 24 hours after your microneedling.

How many treatments will I need?
I recommend a minimum of 3 to 5 treatments to produce a cumulative result in the area treated. Treatments are typically 4 weeks apart. Deep wrinkles, years of sun damage, stretch marks and scars may require a few series of treatments to achieve desired results. This treatment is progressive, visible results can be seen after a few days, weeks. And will continue to improve for up to 6 months. Normal aging still continues, thus maintenance treatments are recommended.
Does mirconeedling hurt?
Prior to your treatment I will apply a thick layer of topical numbing gel for 30-45 minutes. I test the most sensitive areas at 30 minutes, if you feel any pokiness I will let it sit longer. Most people feel almost nothing after having been treated with the numbing gel. My clients have reported they enjoy the forced downtime either napping or meditating! My treatment bed is a little slice of heaven!

What is the maintenance?
What you do at home is far more important than anything I do in the treatment room. Having an exceptional routine morning and night will give you longer lasting results. I recommend using PCA Skin C&E as well as an appropriate PCA Skin Retinol to maintain skin health.
Having a series of microneedling treatments once a year will maintain your results. Although personally I alternate PCA skin chemical peels with microneedling (as do many of my clients) this boosts the production of collagen continuously. Treating the skin once a month, alternating between peels and needling. The results are stunning!

What is the downtime?
Immediately after your treatment your skin will look slightly pink to very red and flushed. It can feel and look like a mild sunburn. Each persons skin is very different, some have no or very little redness the next day while others take a few days for the residual redness to dissipate. Each day the redness will decrease. There may be a little peeling as it is exfoliating. Many factors play a part in healing time. During our consultation I can give a better idea of how I think your skin will heal and what the healing time will be. I ALWAYS recommend scheduling a first time needling when you have a few days to recover. Away from special events or picture days!

Microneedling: Treatment/Aftercare

Greencaine gel containing 4% lidocaine will be applied to your skin and covered. It will take 30-45 minutes for the skin to sufficiently numb. Your skin will be cleansed with a mild cleanser and disinfected before the treatment. PCA Skin hyaluronic acid will be needled into your skin throughout the needling process and at the conclusion of the procedure. Please do not put any other products on your skin after the procedure unless directed by Lisa G Skincare.
Healing
Immediately after the treatment you will be very red and a slight swelling may be present. Depending on the extent of the treatment it can last a couple of hours to a few days. The redness will fade more each day. Hydrating Serum is very helpful during the healing process. You may feel dry or chapped with some flakiness.
Some clients will see results from the very first treatment and others will need multiple procedures to see results. Treatments should be done every 4 weeks. The results at 30 days are not a complete indication of the process of remodeling and collagen reformation. Complete healing, including collagen strand development and vascular development can actually take between 3 months to a year. Even after the collagen is laid down in the healing process, it takes time to mature into a similar matrix of strong healthy dermal tissue.
Aftercare
Avoid using sunscreen for 24 hours. Avoid applying makeup for 24 hours. High quality mineral makeup is recommended such as Jane Iredale. Use a calming, mild cleanser with clean hands to gently wash your face. Avoid touching the treated area as much as possible. Make sure you have a clean pillow case. If you have animals keep them away from your face for the 24 hours. If you wear glasses make sure they are disinfected on the areas that will touch your face. If you wear hats launder them before wearing them.
Avoid sun exposure for 2 weeks if possible. After 3 days you can return to your normal skincare routine.
