What does IPL photorejuvenation (photofacial) do for the skin?

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) is used for: Lightening and removing hyperpigmentation (brown spots) on the face, neck, chest, hands and other areas of the body Lightening and reducing redness, rosacea, dilated blood vessels on the face, neck and chest Improve texture of the skin, stimulates collagen, improve pore size and reduce oiliness.

How does IPL improve the appearance of blood vessels, rosacea, and hyperpigmentation?

The device emits a range of lightwaves that target hemoglobin (red) or melanin (brown pigment). The light is absorbed by either hemoglobin or melanin. This damages either the vessel wall or fragments melanin, which is then absorbed by the body, rendering them less visible.

How long does it take for IPL treatments to work?

Most people require 3-5 monthly treatments and full results are seen at around 6 months. You can see some improvement with each treatment, but it’s common for your response to be slightly different with each treatment. The more sun damage or redness you have, the more treatments you will most likely need. Some cases require more than 5 treatments. Expect to see gradual clearing over time.

Do IPL treatments hurt and how long will they take?

There may be mild discomfort during the process. A slight sting comparable to a rubber band snap. As your skin begins to clear, each treatment becomes more comfortable. Treatments usually take 30-45 minutes, depending on the size of the area treated.

What will I look like right after the IPL treatment, and what is the healing time?

For veins, generally, the skin looks more red after the treatment for 2-5 days. Makeup can be used right after treatment, being applied and removed very gently. For hyperpigmentation, the spots generally look darker for 3-7 days. Crusting can occur, if this happens it will resolve in approximately 1month.

How long will the results from IPL last?

With proper care and protection results will be long lasting. Maintenance treatments are recommended approximately every 3-6 months. This will continue to stimulate collagen growth and maintain youthful clear skin. Daily UVA/UVB protection is a must or underlying issues will return.
